Swillington Village Council operates under an annual budget which is agreed at a Full Council meeting around Nov-Jan, for the following financial year (1st April to 31st March). 

The Precept is the annual amount of tax charged on each residential property in the area to fund the activities and services provided by the Village Council. It is collected on behalf of the council by Leeds City Council as part of the Council Tax. The Council agreed a precept of £34,135 for the financial year 2025-26.

The Council also has a small number of other income streams.

Swillington Village Council undertakes an internal audit (an auditor appointed by the Council who is independent of the Council) of its finances and procedures annually. Furthermore, the Audit Commission Act 1998 requires the Council's yearly accounts to be audited by an external auditor appointed by the Audit Commission.

Swillington Village Council can receive grants from various organisations in order to aid its funding for various projects. 

The Council also sets a budget each financial year for the giving of grants and donations to organisations within Swillington which apply through its Grant Scheme (application form found here).
